Summary:

When I got to Chatham, it was a beautiful sunny evening. The air was a bit crisp but that was to be expected after the light rain we had experienced on the drive down. Wait till you see what we found. Check it out now. Reading Time: 3 minutes

I don't care where I live, so long as there's a roof to keep the rain off my books, and high-speed Internet access. ~ Eliezer Yudkowsky

Today I sat down looking out my window and was thinking how beautiful and sunny the sky looks. I was pondering my notes for this article and tweaking the draft (in my mind). I was excited for this day. Then I got some wonderful news. My review article, Review: Born A Crime, was selected as Top Article for this week. Woo-Hoo! It feels good to selected and I hope your pieces receive the same honours in due time.

I've been itching to tell you about my trip this weekend. It started out with the family and I wanting to go to an event with a speaker. His draws comics as well as writes books.  Well, the drive down to Chatham on Friday was quite frightful just prior to getting there. There was strong winds blowing across the highway making driving very difficult. More than once, we had to steer the car back into the correct lane. Then just in front of us was  cube van.  I kid you not. The van lifted up on one side slightly so that the wheels on the right side were a couple inches off the ground. I can tell you about that time I started praying harder than a man hiding under the bed of his girlfriend who happens to be the wife of her armed police officer husband in the room. I imagine a man under the bed in that scenario would be praying really hard.

We passed the cube van as soon as it was safe to do so. Thankfully by the time we got to Chatham, the weather seemed to be calm once more.  We checked into the hotel and relaxed a bit before heading off to the venue for the event. When we got there, we saw the roof fallen off the back side of the building. Imagine my surprise when we were met by folks on the street who informed us that the roof had fallen down above the entrance they were going to use for the event about an hour or so earlier.  Thank Yah we didn't go earlier to the venue.

This experience made me ponder a few life lessons:

  • The Show Must Go On:  You have probably heard that saying at some point in your life. It's popular among the entertainment and theatre crowd. I heard it and never paid it much mind really but seeing how the organizer of the event kept things together and still pulled off a great event, really made that jump out for me. Yes, if you are resolute, the event will happen.
  • Yah is in Control:  You can imagine how wide my eyes opened when I saw the cube van begin to lift onto one side. It went back down and things were okay for us to pass. Our car was having a rough time staying in our lane a couple times. I even saw an electrical pole snapped in half like a matchstick on our return trip out of Chatham. All of the turmoil and chaos happened around us but we were always under the care of our creator.
  • We're All Doing The Best We Can:  Life can seem tough at times. We may look at others and think, oh they have it so good. But the truth is we are all doing the best we can with our lot in life. Some of us are wind surfers while others are sail boaters. Sometimes the winds of life blow your sails in the wrong direction or blow the roof of part of your building. You smile and do the best you can, adjust your course, and keep on doing the best you can.

Until next time, continue to learn and grow.
