We take so much of our freedoms for granted. Yet, to enable another person to gain that freedom is to be a blessing. ~ Vaughn Berkeley, MBA

I read in the news recently that the Oshawa Public Library is offering patrons the ability to check out their own mobile Wi-Fi hotspots for a week.

This means that the poorest of patrons who have no access to internet at home can now be able to work with internet access for a week.

now it is possible to borrow mobile wifi hotspots from the library #freewifi

I have to give this initiative a big thumbs up. I see their are several positives to such a move.

Poor Children Benefit: There was a documentary I was watching some time ago about poverty and children. Many of the children were doing poorly in school because they did not have access to the internet at home. They could not do the same research as "richer" kids with internet access. The poorer kids could not complete their assignments on time. And overall, the quality of their assignments was lacking through no fault of their own.

Poor Adults Benefit: I can see poor adults benefiting from this internet access too. Imagine now being able to do some work online for a week. These would be short term gigs that pay you the same day. The person might very well be able to earn a week's wages with the internet access courtesy of the library. And it could help save that person from homelessness or buy food for their family.

I am encouraged to see that the Oshawa Public Library has taken this positive step to serve its patrons with a much needed service.

Until next time, continue to learn and grow.
